Now & Then (Short Film)

=ABOUT=

Now & Then is a 5-min short film, written, directed, and edited by me, which compared people’s lives before and after the development of technology. With low technology, people’s lives lack convenience; however, people have chances to connect with the world and others physically. With high technology, assume that people can solve most of their daily problems online, then people can live a convenient life; nevertheless, people have fewer chances actually to meet others or even leave their place.

=Story Behind the Film=

I wrote the story of Now & Then because of the pandemic that everyone had been through for the last two years. Also, there are some games and films which gave me inspiration as well, such as Ready Player One, Death Stranding, and Cyberpunk 2077. Those inspired me to think, what if people rely on high technologies and rarely meet each other in the future? Does technology really help us or not? Game is also an industry that pushes our technologies going forward. Therefore, as a game designer, I am always curious about what the world will be like if virtual can combine with reality.

=Personal Contribution=

Now & Then was filmed by a team of five. I worked as the director, writer, and editor in the team. Mainly, I was communicating with my teammates and the actor about the environment, light settings, camera settings, camera angles, and graphic compositions to tell a smooth and complete story for the audience.
